#What makes a seamless tile special

A true seamless tile is rarer than it looks. No image model has a "make it tile" switch — ask most tools for "a seamless pattern" and you get a picture of a pattern: it looks repeatable until you actually lay copies edge to edge, and a hard line runs down every join.

Getting a motif whose left edge flows into its right, and whose top flows into its bottom, is part craft and part luck. Infinity plays that game for you, at scale, and keeps only the tiles that genuinely wrap:

  1. Roll a batch. Each press generates several candidates at once — four per batch, up to three batches — so you're never waiting on a single lucky seed.
  2. Check the edges. Infinity inspects every candidate for continuity across the wrap — right edge against left, top against bottom — and rejects the ones that would show a seam. It also throws out the fakes: a lone object on a blank background "wraps" only because its borders are empty, and that doesn't count.
  3. Tile the winner. The first candidate that passes becomes your living page background, repeating in every direction. Scroll to zoom, or open it fullscreen and take it in.

#Tips for best results

  • Keep the palette tight. Tonally-close colours tessellate; high-contrast pairs almost never do. The built-in subjects already follow this rule — a red object on a blue field will fight you.
  • Think objects, not scenes. "Green ceramic frogs" tiles beautifully. "A pond at sunset" won't — a landscape has a top and a bottom, and a tile has neither.
  • Roll again. Seamlessness is part luck. If a few batches come up short, the same subject and style will often land on the next press.
  • Trust your eyes. The seam check is a strong hint, not a verdict — it can't always tell a motif that was cleanly cut off at the edge from one that truly continues. If a "pass" looks off to you, you're right.
  • Try a style you'd never pick. Linocut, risograph and stained glass have flat shapes and hard outlines that tend to wrap more cleanly than soft, shaded photorealism.
